Classroom Management
Our school will be implementing the Nurtured Heart Approach. This is where we use positive reinforcement and praise to drive kind, respectful behaviors everyday at school. Along with that, I have my own classroom clip chart for behavior. Each day, every child begins on green, which is "Ready to Learn." As good choices are made, directions are followed the first time, and I see great displays of kindness, I will clip them up. After green is blue "Good Job" and then purple "Great Job" and finally pink is the highest "Outstanding." If your child is clipped up and ends the day on blue, purple, or pink they will get a small note to take home at the end of the day that says "Hooray! I made outstanding choices today" and the color will match the color they ended the day on. However, in the event that your child does have behavior issues, he/she will be asked to "reset." If the behavior continues he/she will have to begin to clip down each time. Below green is yellow "Slow Down" After yellow is orange "`Think About It" where the child will have to go to the black dot, take a time out, and fill out a written reset form that states "What did I do? What can I do next time?" If your child ends the day on orange, there will also be a yellow note that goes home and MUST be signed and returned to school the very next day, or they will receive an L.S.S (Lunch Success Session) with Mrs. McCloughan, our principal. The final step is red "Parent Contact" where your child will be sent to the office and receive an L.S.S. You will be informed of the issue via letter or phone call. The best part of this behavior chart is that your child has the opportunity to do be better. Once they are clipped down, if they begin to make better choices, they can then clip back up. I believe in second chances because we all make mistakes :)!
